Species Austrorhytida harriettae (Cox, 1868)

Harriett's Carnivorous Snail

Compiler and date details

September 2012 - Dr John Stanisic

Introduction

Austrorhytida harriettae has a similarly coloured shell to A. barringtoniana, but differs by being smaller with much weaker sculpture. The animal is pinkish-orange. The type locality of this species was given as Richmond River, NSW by Cox (1868), but no streaked forms have been found there. The type specimen of Austrorhytida harriettae is presumed lost, but based on the description and figure, the name was confidently applied to a species from the central coast of NSW by Stanisic et al. (2010).
