Introduction

Austrorhytida capillacea is a common and widespread carnivorous snail in southeast New South Wales. The species is still fairly common in the Sydney area where native bushland is found. The animal is pale to dark grey, with a paler dorsal stripe and has a grey mantle.

Diagnosis

Shell medium-sized to large, yellow or reddish-brown often with darker radial streaks, discoidal to subdiscoidal; protoconch with vague radial ribs and microspiral striae, teleoconch sculpture of prominent regular radial ribs usually becoming obsolete at the end of the last whorl; umbilicus wide, U-shaped; diameter to 28mm.
