Holotype OMNZ A69.38-39 mature sectioned worm, near stream running from the flanks of Mount Honey, Campbell Island (under rocks on the seashore).

Specimens identified as Astacopsidrilus campbellianus by Brinkhurst, R.O. 1982. Additional aquatic Oligochaeta from Australia and New Zealand. Records of the Queen Victoria Museum of Launceston 78: 1–13 from mainland Australia were subsequently described as Phreodrilus diemenensis Pinder & Brinkhurst, 1997.
