Introduction

An alternative taxonomy (Wells 2007) includes this taxon in a distinct Family, Aprasiaidae Wells, 2007, comprising three genera. These are Aprasia Gray, 1839 — content: A. parapulchella Kluge, 1974; A. pseudopulchella Kluge, 1974; A. pulchella Gray, 1839. Abilenea Wells, 2007 — content: A. aurita (Kluge, 1974); A. fusca (Storr, 1979); A. glauerti (Parker, 1956); A. haroldi (Storr, 1978); A. inaurita (Kluge, 1974); A. picturata (Smith and Henry, 1999); A. repens (Fry, 1914); A. rostrata (Parker, 1956); A. smithi (Storr, 1970); A. striolata (Luetken, 1863). Ophidiocephalus Lucas and Frost, 1897 — content: O. taeniatus Lucas and Frost, 1897. This taxonomy has not gained widespread acceptance.
