• Anopheles amictus hilli Woodhill, A.R. & D.J. Lee 1944. The subspecies of Anopheles amictus Edwards (Diptera, Culicidae). Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales 69: 62-66 [63] [originally described as a subspecies of Anopheles amictus Edwards, 1921].

   Holotype ANIC ♀ adult, Adelaide River, NT.
  Paratype(s) ANIC 33 adults, 22 larval morphotypes and series of eggs (type series all produced from one wild female which is included as a paratype).

Adult: volant.

Larva: aquatic.

Extra Ecological Information

Adult autogenous and bites humans, isolation of Plasmodium sporozoites from collections but no importance as a malaria vector, isolation of Ross River virus, favourable intermediate host for Wuchereria bancrofti (filariasis); larva found in polluted and brackish water, rice fields, muddy pools, slit trenches, shallow weedy margins of freshwater swamps and in pools with high salinity.
