Introduction
Giordani Soika (1961) casts doubts about the presence of this genus in Australia, which is otherwise widespread in the Holarctic region, but also with some species in the Neotropics, Afrotropics and Oriental Region. Carpenter & Brown (2021) follow suit, and do not regard the genus as occurring in Australia. They not that Ancistrocerus fluvialis was was described from the region but during a period when the generic concept was far broader and the type has not been re-examined, and may well be lost - they recognise the species as species dubiae. They note that Borsato (2003) reported an undescribed species from Sydney, but considering the absence of other species in the genus, it is currently considered a labelling error.
