Adult female an aggressive biter, readily attacking humans, cattle, horses, sheep, dogs, rabbits, cats, echidnas and fowl; major pest following extensive rain or flooding; possible vector of Murray Valley encephalitis virus; possible dispersal agent for myxomatosis; isolation of Ross River virus from collections in the Murray Valley, VIC; larva found in temporary ground pools with vegetated (grassy) edges.
