Ecological Descriptors
Adult: pest, volant.
Larva: aquatic.
Extra Ecological Information
Adult readily attacks humans in bush areas but also feeds on rabbits, possums, cattle, sheep, fowl and marsupials; minor pest near some forested areas; possible vector of myxomatosis; isolation of Ross River virus from specimens collected on the north coast of NSW; larva found in casual ground pools in bushland and sometimes heathland.
