Adult: pest, volant.

Larva: aquatic, tree hole.

Extra Ecological Information

Adult fierce biter and feeds on humans, goats, chickens, sheep, horses, rabbits and cattle; minor domestic pest in some areas; isolation of Kunjin virus from Ord River, WA; possible and likely vector of myxomatosis in the arid zone of South Australia; essentially a tree cavity breeding species; larva found in tree holes, stump and log cavities, rot holes, dams, rock pools, deep wells, tree holes in Poinciana [Caesalpiniaceae] and artificial containers such as tanks, tyres and tins.
