SYSTEMATICS
Slide-mounted adult female with: enlarged setae slender, conical, apices slightly rounded, all approximately same general size except 1 pair in medial area of abdominal segment 7 slightly longer; dorsum tuberculate, covered in irregularly circular to oval, slightly elevated, sclerotized patches (see Gullan, P.J. & Vranjic, J.A. 1991. The taxonomy of the gum tree scales Eriococcus confusus Maskell and E. coriaceus Maskell (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Eriococcidae). General and Applied Entomology 23: 21–40).
STRUCTURE
Sac of female is elongate, often half buried in a crack in the bark surface, white to brown in color. Adult female is bright red, rounded and oval (see Froggatt, W.W. 1921.
