GENERAL

Cursory description by Maskell, W.M. 1897. Further coccid notes: with descriptions of new species and discussions of points of interest. Transactions and Proceedings of the New Zealand Institute 29: 293–331. Type information by Deitz, L.L. & Tocker, M.F. 1980. W.M. Maskell's Homoptera: Species-group names and type-material. New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Information Series 146: 1–76.

SYSTEMATICS

Lindinger, L. 1933. Beiträge zur Kenntnis der Schildläuse (Hemipt. – Homopt., Coccid.). Entomologischer Anzeiger 13: 77–166 realized when he synonymized the genera Rhizococcus, Eriococcus and Gossyparia with Nidularia that the species Gossyparia casuarinae Maskell, 1893 and Rhizococcus casuarinae Maskell, 1893 would be homonyms. As the first reviser, he apparently proposed the replacement name Nidularia chalazgamarum for Rhizococcus casuarinae and maintained Nidularia casuarinae for what Maskell considered to be Gossyparia. This action is fairly obscure in Lindinger, L. 1933. Beiträge zur Kenntnis der Schildläuse (Hemipt. – Homopt., Coccid.). Entomologischer Anzeiger 13: 77–166 and Hoy, J.M. 1963. A catalogue of the Eriococcidae (Homoptera: Coccoidea) of the world. New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research Bulletin 150: 1–260 incorrectly interpreted it as an invalid replacement name.
