Introduction

The species was originally described as Acanthobothrium rhynchobatidis rotundum. It is recognised as Acanthobothrium rhynchobatidis by Campbell & Beveridge (2002), but as Acanthobothrium robustum by Caira & Jensen (2017).

Endoparasitic (host(s): Rhynchobatus sp. [RHYNCHOBATIDAE] Wedgefish (host originally recorded as Rhynchobatus djiddensis Forsskål, 1775, but this name now applies to a species found only in the Western Indian Ocean; re-examination of host material is needed to determine its new name; definitive host)).
