Family AUSTRALOCYTHERIDEIDAE Hartmann, 1980

Introduction

The family has only one genus and one species, endemic to Australia.

 

Diagnosis

Large ostracods, transversely oblong in shape, anteroventral margin denticulate, and with a dorsomedial sulcus. Left valve larger than right one, height usually less than half length. Surface pitted or reticulated. Inner lamella moderately broad, long wavy, typically unbranched radial pore canals, simple normal pore canals. Hinge modified antimerodont.
