Introduction
The family Apatopygidae occurs in the Malayan and Tasman regions. One extant genus is known. One species is recorded in Australian waters.
Apatopygids are distinguished in the order Cassiduloida by the following combination of character states: medium-sized, apical system tetrabasal in young, monobasal in adult; petals moderately developed; single pored ambulacral plates beyond petals; periproct supramarginal; bourrelets slightly developed; buccal pores absent.
