Introduction
Although nineteen genera and 157 species of Amphipsocidae occur worldwide, Australian representation is limited to three endemic species in one genus, Taeniostigma Enderlein. These are among the biggest of Australian Psocoptera, inhabiting broad-leaved, evergreen, rainforest trees.
Amphipsocids are very similar to the Caeciliidae but can be distinguished by their having more than one row of setae on the distal branches of the forewing veins and some of the hind wing veins. Some species have setae on the wing membrane in addition to those on the veins. The eggs are laid in groups and are covered by silken threads only.
