Family AETIOPEDESIDAE Myers & Lowry, 2003
Introduction
The family Aetiopedesidae was established by Myers & Lowry (2003) based on a phylogenetic analysis of corophiidean amphipods. The monotypic family, currently known only from Tasmania, is based on one species and appears to be most closely related to the monotypic Antarctic family Paragammaropsidae Myers & Lowry, 2003, both of which have silk glands in the merus of pereopods 3–4. Aetiopedesids are unusual among corophiidean amphipods in exhibiting no sexual dimorphism. Nothing is known about the feeding strategies of aetiopedesids.
