Family ADELIDAE
Compiler and date details
28 June 2007 - E.D. (Ted) Edwards, CSIRO Entomology, Canberra, Australia
Introduction
The fairy moth family is represented in Australia by relatively few species. Both major groups in the family (Nielsen 1985) are represented by one genus each. The crepuscular and drab-coloured Nematopogoninae (Ceromitia Zeller group) occur in temperate Australia and their closest relatives are in southern Africa and southern South America. The Adelinae (Adela Latreille group) occur widely in Australia and several species are related to South-East Asian taxa.
The Australian fauna has never been revised and the named fauna was described by various authors. They were included in Lepidopterum Catalogus and Genera Insectorum by Meyrick (1912e, 1912f).{}{}
