Introduction

This species comprises two subspecies, the nominal one from the wet tropics of North Queensland and P. smithi lamingtoni Woodward from SE Queensland.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Small, length 2.4–3.0 mm (male), 2.7–3.3 mm (female). Tegmen pale brown between veins, without a continuous broad pale costal band. Cu1a and M3+4 fused beyond i-m. Aedeagus with a large ventral membranous lobe, Periandrium with lateral lobes narrow, acuminate, about as long as median lobe an dcompletely covered by it above. Female with last sternum widest posteriorly; ventral valvulae subglobular; posterior angles of anal segment not outwardly produced (Woodward 1957).
