Introduction

This tribes contains two genera. Goniagnathus Fieber includes most of the species, including all the Australian species of Goniagnathini. The tribe is distributed in the Old World from Africa and Europe to Asia and Australia and is associated with arid and semi-arid grasslands. The first record of the tribe in Australia was by Fletcher and Zahniser (2008).

 

Diagnosis

Robust brownish leafhoppers. Body short and broad. head broader than pronotum, very short and broad, anterior margin rounded to face. Face short and broad; anteclypeus broadening apicad; frontoclypeus broad, minutely punctate, extending distinctly on to crown. Crown of ± uniform length, finely longitudinally striated, postfrontal suture indistinct, coronal suture short; ocelli small, rather far from eyes. Pronotum with long carinate lateral margins, disk transversely wrinkled. Elytra short and broad, about as long as abdomen, venation complete, veins minutely tuberculate. Spinulation of fore tibiae 3+4, of hind knees 2+2+1. Male genitalia: Short and broad genital plates and the reduced valve fused with each other. Styli large. Connective fused with penis, small, stem broad, arms close to each other. (Linnavuori 1978).
