   Basilioterpa bullata Hamilton & Morales, 1992 by original designation (New Zealand (Three Kings Island)).

Introduction

Basilioterpa is a small genus comprising just three species with restricted island distributions. The two Australian species are found only on Lord Howe Island and can be separated by the presence of dark markings in B. fasciata while B. pallida is entirely pale brown in colour. The type species, B. bullata, is restricted to Three Kings Island, just off the northern tip of the north island of New Zealand, and differs from both Australian species by having dark markings on the head and body.

Diagnosis

Crown declivous. Face not inflated, apical margin of head midway between planes of dorsum and venter. Head slightly wider than pronotum (in Australian species). Crown shorter than pronotum in midline, apex bluntly pointed. Antennal ledges carinate. Fore femur longer than hind femur. Tegmen with costal margin even convex and apices bluntly pointed. Venation obscure but weakly carinate at apices. Apical cells 6-8. Hind tibia with two spurs, the distal longer than the proximal. Male genitalia with short pygofer, subgenital plates short. Parameres broad basally, extending into apical curved spine. Aedeagal shaft laterally compressed, strongly reflexed cephalad. Anal tube lacking processes, basal segment as long as remaining segments together. (Hamilton & Morales 1992)
