Diagnosis
The description provided was vague; only the following distinguishing characteristics could be extracted: Tentacles arising in a single row. The colour of the disk delicate opalescent yellow, reminding one of the mediaeval glass of Venice. The muscle system of the oral wall of the bell is of a delicate pink, as are also the genital organs. The oral fringes are of a most exquisite and delicate rose-color, and the entoderm of the tentacles is port-wine colored. The sense organs bear an intense orange pigment. The diameter of the disk is 180mm.

Notes
The species Desmonema rosea was originally described from Largs Bay, South Australia; however, the medusa described and illustrated is clearly a Cyanea, creating a homonym with the earlier described Cyanea rosea Quoy & Gaimard (1824) from near Port Jackson.
