Introduction

This genus contains only a single species, P. deprivata, which is the common froghopper in SE Australia. Its uniform mid to dark brown colouring with golden pubescence is fairly distinctive.

Diagnosis

Allied to Aufiterna but vertex short, frons more tumid and more lightly channelled, laterally strongly striate transversely. Pronotum with 8 naked callous spots in a line near the anterior margin, lightly and narrowly sulcate medio-longitudinally. Tegmina coriaceous, 3 discoidal (subapical, and 4 apical) costa with many cells anteriorly), two of the apical veins forking near the apex (Kirkaldy 1906)

On the face of the head, the labium terminates at the base of the mid coxae. The frontoclypeus is flattened in the male and convex in the female. The tegmina are narrowly tectiform with obscure venation and the hind tibiae have a single spur. (Evans 1966)
