Ecological Descriptors
Adult: ectoparasitic, marine.
Diagnosis
The present species is most similar in general body form to C. truncatogenitalis Roubal (1981), and C. pectinatus Shiino (1965). The former can be distinguished from the present species in possessing a narrower abdominal segment, more elongate caudal rami, broader furcal tines, no spines on the basal segment of leg 1, and a small conical denticle postero-medial to the tip of the first maxilla in the female. The males of these species differ most in the armature of the claw in the second antenna; that of C. truncatogenitalis has two short broad tines, the new species has an additional ong narrow time. Caligus pectinatus, although similar in general body shape and shape of sternal furca, can immediately be separated from the new species by the armature of its exopod of the fourth leg which possesses five setae; C. dampieri has only four.
