Introduction

This relatively large and elegantly coloured species is known from far north Queensland although a single specimen in ASCU is from Dorrigo on the New South Wales north coast indicating that the species is probably widely spread in rainforest areas along the Queensland coastline. It was presumably named after Dr Bryan Cantrell, who is a Queensland dipterist and who collected the holotype specimen.
