Species Pteropus macrotis Peters, 1867
Large-eared Flying-fox
Introduction
Presence in Australia is controversial. Helgen (2004) reviewed all museum specimens referred to this species, which turned out to be P. scapularis. He therefore proposed to remove P. macrotris from the Australian fauna. Hall (2008) argued that there is sufficient evidence (e.g. photos) among bat experts that the species is present in Torres Strait islands (mud banks near Boigu Is.).
