Holotype ZMB 6495 one colony in alcohol, Bata Island, Palawan, Philippines.

Introduction
The true identity of the Australian material referred to this species by Verseveldt (1977: 174 listed) is unknown. In his later revision of Sinularia, Verseveldt (1980: 78) synonymised Sinularia gonatodes (= Sinularia leptoclados var. gonatodes) with S. leptoclados. In his list of synonyms he stated that the S. gonatodes listed in 1977 was not the same as S. leptoclados.
