Species Cacoxenus (Gitonides) perspicax Knab, 1914

Extra Distribution Information

Bock (1982) examined a large number of Cacoxenus specimens from throughout Australia, determining them to be C. perspicax. He redescribed the general morphology, but not the terminalia, of the Australian material. Following the discovery by Chassagnard & Tsacas (2003) that many cryptic species, each with distinctive male terminalia, have previously been misidentified as C. perspicax throughout the world, doubt now surrounds the identity of the bulk of the Australian Cacoxenus material. Indeed, a recent examination of Pilbara, Western Australia, Cacoxenus specimens indicates that they are close to C. orientalis Chassagnard & Tsacas, 2003 (type locality India).
