Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy

 

Introduction

This species may be the senior synonym of P. moorei Evans but an examination of the type material of all three described names, including the synonymised P. coloratus Evans which is based on a male holotype, is needed to determine their validity.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Head chestnut brown, eyes red. Pronotum chestnut brown partially sfufused with dark brown. Scutellum chestnut brown. Tegmen pale hyaline brown, apically smoky grey, veins pale brown. Thorax and abdomen ventral surface and legs brown. Last abdominal segment narrowly produeced medially, emarginate laterally, Ovipositor sheath spinose. Length 7 mm (Evans 1942).

Head ventral surface dark brown. Crown chestnut brown with a medium [sic] black stripe extending from the base to within one third of the apex and two small brown markings close to the eyes on each side; eyes red. Pronotum chestnut brown. Scutellum black. Tegmen hyaline brown, the costal border colorless; apex and veins dark brown. Thorax and abdomen ventral surface black. Length 5.5 mm (Evans 1942, of P. coloratus)
