Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
APC Comment:P.J.Garnock-Jones, New Zealand J. Bot. 25(1): 127 (1987) made the combination Melicytus angustifolius for this taxon while B.P.J.Molloy & D.J.Mabberley, Curtis' Bot. Mag. 17(4): 234 (2000) made the combination M. dentatus. Hymenanthera dentata and H. angustifolia were published simultaneously. G.Bentham, Fl. Austral. (1863), the first author to treat the two taxa as conspecific, chose the epithet “dentata” and placed H. angustifolia in synonymy (as a variety). Accordingly, M. dentatus has priority over M. angustifolius when these taxa are treated as a single species.
