The Australian Plant Census (APC) is a list of the accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, ferns, gymnosperms, hornworts and liverworts, both native and introduced, and includes synonyms and misapplications for these names. The APC covers all published scientific plant names used in an Australian context in the taxonomic literature, but excludes taxa known only from cultivation in Australia. The taxonomy and nomenclature adopted for the APC are endorsed by the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH).

P.J.Garnock-Jones, New Zealand J. Bot. 25(1): 127 (1987) made the combination Melicytus angustifolius for this taxon while B.P.J.Molloy & D.J.Mabberley, Curtis' Bot. Mag. 17(4): 234 (2000) made the combination M. dentatus. Hymenanthera dentata and H. angustifolia were published simultaneously. G.Bentham, Fl. Austral. (1863), the first author to treat the two taxa as conspecific, chose the epithet “dentata” and placed H. angustifolia in synonymy (as a variety). Accordingly, M. dentatus has priority over M. angustifolius when these taxa are treated as a single species. -
