Introduction

Nesopuparia norfolkensis is the larger and more widespread of two species of pupillid found on Norfolk Island. The species is distinguished by having a broad, sinistrally coiled shell sculptured with numerous coarse axial ribs and having an aperture with several strongly developed barriers. The shell is usually encrusted with dirt.

Diagnosis

Shell very small, golden brown, ovately conical, sinistral; sculpture of coarse, sinuous, rather irregular oblique axial ribs on a malleated surface; aperture subquadrate with eight barriers: a sinuous angular, lamellate parietal, small infraparietal, horizontal columellar, knob-like infracolumellar, large upper and lower palatals and a small suprapalatal; umbilicus tiny; height 3.6mm.
