Genus Overbeckia Viehmeyer, 1916

Introduction

The first record of Overbeckia was reported by Heterick (2019). The report stated that the specimens, collected from the edge of the town of Mossman, Queensland, closely resembled Overbeckia subclavata, and was listed in the article as Overbeckia cf. subclavata. Importantly, the author noted that he could not confirm if his specimens were truly specimens of O. subclavata, or if they were a distinct species. The author proposed three possibilities: 1) that the specimens represent the first record of an endemic Australian species within Overbeckia; 2) they represent a morphological variant of O. subclavata which may also be found overseas and occurs naturally in Australia; or 3) they represent a population of O. subclavata, which was introduced into Australia some time ago.
