Family PSEUDOTOBOTHRIIDAE Palm, 1995
Introduction
As indicated under comments for the Otobothriidae, the validity of this family remains controversial. Apart from the type genus, Palm (2004) erected a new genus, Parotobothrium for P. balli (Southwell, 1929), formerly placed in Paranybelinia Dollfus, 1964, a genus of the family Paranybeliniidae Schmidt, 1970. This family is known only from plerocerci found in plankton. A further genus, Poecilacanthum Palm, 1995, is known from teleosts in New Guinea and may also occur in Australia.
