Genus Heteromeyenia Potts, 1881

Diagnosis

Spongillidae with encrusting growth form. Choanosomal skeleton an irregular network of paucispicular parallel fibres and undefined secondary tracts. Sparse spongin. Megascleres acanthoxeas. Microscleres acanthoxeas. Gemmules scattered in groups. Theca tri-layered with gemmuloscleres radially embedded. Gemmuloscleres birotules of two types: birotules and pseudobirotules.
