Holloway (1985) stated that no other specimens of this species are known from Australia. The Australian species which has been known as L. squammigera Guenée previously [was] recorded [by Edwrads 1996] as Lophoptera vittigera Walker, 1865. The holotype of L. vittigera Walker has the abdomen largely destroyed and the species has had to be identified for this Checklist on its appearence and type locality. The genitalia of Lophoptera vittigera Walker and L. aleuca Hampson, 1912 are indistinguishable and both have identical ranges. [Edwards 1996] regarded [them] as conspecific although they differ in forewing colour pattern. Another species of Lophoptera present in Australia, was identified by Holloway (1979) as L. squammigera Guenée and by Holloway (1985) as L. vittigera Walker. This species appears to be unnamed but should not be named until the whole group is thoroughly revised)
