Bollettino della Società Veneziana Storia Naturale 2: 130-279 [258] [originally described as variety. Borsato (2003) questioned the validity of this subspecies, probably a synonym of the nominate one, but not having seen the type. This taxon was described on the base of a single male, characterized by body parts with yellow instead of orange, whereas a much larger sample shows a gradual variation from brown to orange to yellow. It was synonymised by Carpenter & Brown (2021).].
