Subtribe Rhexiina Park, 1951

Introduction

The large Neotropical genus Rhexius and Austrorhexius from Australia are the sole members of the subtribe Rhexiina Park. The Rhexiina can only be separated from the Trogastrina by the presence of the distinct, narrow, apical lobe of the pronotum. Some members of the Trogastrina, such as the Neotropical Anarmodius Raffray, have the apical portion of the pronotum narrowed, and a slight indentation to each side that suggests the initial stages of development of the constriction found in members of the Rhexiina. A more extensive analysis of the poorly known Neotropical genera of Trogastrina may direct a merger of these two subtribes (Chandler 2001: 94).

Diagnosis

Head as wide or wider than pronotum; lacking vertexal foveae; antennomeres I as long as next four combined; genae broadly swollen. Pronotum with narrow apical lobe distinctly defined by basal constriction.
