  Type species:

   Sphaerococcus elevans Maskell, 1895 by monotypy.

SYSTEMATICS

Generic characteristics that distinguish this genus from all other eriococcids are: the possession of central, sclerotized boss on dorsum; boss with numerous pouch-like invaginations; antennae 1-segmented; legs reduced to tubercles, with indistinct segmentation; labium 1-segmented; no protruding anal lobes; no enlarged setae (Beardsley, J.W. 1974.
