Adult: pest, volant.

Larva: aquatic, phytotelmata.

Extra Ecological Information

Adult a fierce biter and attacks humans and horses; adults caught in light traps; pest nuisance for domestic environments near larval habitats; potential vector of Wuchereria bancrofti (filariasis) and minor vector of Dirofilaria immitis (canine heartworm); isolation of Eubenangee arbovirus from collections in Cairns and Innisfail, QLD; larvae found in leaf axils of a range of plants including banana, pineapple, taro (Colocasia [Araceae]), cunjevoi (Alocasia macrorrhiza L. [Araceae]), Crinum [Liliaceae], Pandanus [Pandanaceae], flower bracts of Curcuma australasica J.D.Hook [Zingiberaceae] and sago palms.
