Ecological Descriptors

Adult: pest, volant.

Larva: aquatic.

Extra Ecological Information

Adult bites humans, cattle, pigs, horses, dogs, fowl and kangaroos; adult caught in light and chicken-baited traps; substantial pest nuisance at times; isolation of Ross River, Murray Valley encephalitis and Sindbis viruses from collections but its role as a vector of arboviruses is unclear; larva found in casual ground pools, large and small natural depressions and watercourses, with or without vegetation.
