Compiler and date details

Introduction
The family Rhynchobatidae includes a single genus and five species, with three species known from Australia (Last & Stevens 2009). The family is known from the Indo-west Pacific and eastern Atlantic. It was previously combined with the Rhinidae (Hoese et al. 2006), but we follow Nelson (2006) and Last & Stevens (2009) in recognising the family.
Wedgefishes live in coastal and continental shelf soft bottom environments in depths up to 60 m. Australian species are treated in Last & Stevens (1994, 2009) and Compagno & Last (1999).
Maximum size is 3 m.
