Species Tympanocryptis pinguicolla Mitchell, 1948

Victorian Grassland Earless Dragon

Introduction

While this name was previously applied to four disjunct populations in south-eastern Australia, Melville et al. (2019) determined that these represent four different species. The type specimen of T. lineata was found to be from the Canberra region and that name applied to the ACT population, while T. pinguicolla was applied to the southern VIC population based on the type location. The remaining two populations were described as new species, T. mccartneyi from Bathurst and T. osbornei from around Cooma, NSW. See Melville et al. (2019) for further information.
