Family TRICHOSTRONGYLIDAE Leiper, 1912

Introduction

This highly important family is represented in Australia exclusively by introduced species. The genus Trichostrongylus comprises parasites of the small intestines of ruminants, including major pathogens of sheep in southern Australia (T. colubriformis, T. vitrinus). The other introduced genus, Libyostrongylus, a parasite of ostriches is also pathogenic in large numbers.
