Family TULLBERGIIDAE

Introduction

There are 7 genera and 16 species of Tullbergiidae in Australia. This family was originally considered to be a subfamily of Onychiuridae.

The Tullbergiidae have both Southern and Northern Hemisphere elements and is one of the commonest subfamilies on Subantarctic islands. Like the Onychiuridae, all forms are soil dwelling and lack ocelli, furca and dark pigment.

Diagnosis

Characterised by: thorax I setose, mandibular plate present, pseudoocelli present, ocelli absent and pigment absent, antenna III organ simple with small sensory papillae and rods.
