• Chauliognathus Hentz, N.M. 1830. Remarks on the use of the maxillae in coleopterous insects, with an account of two species of the family Telephoridae, and three of the family Mordellidae, which ought to be the type of two distinct genera. Transactions of the Australian Entomological Society n.s. 3: 458-463 [460].

   Telephorus pennsylvanicus De Geer, 1774 by subsequent designation, see Champion, G.C. 1914. Revision of the Mexican and Central American Chauliognathinae (Fam. Telephoridae), based on the genital armature of the males. Transactions of the Entomological Society of London 1914(1): 128-168, pls III-VIII [Date published June 25, 1914] [128] (= Cantharis bimaculata Fabricius, 1781; originally established with two included species: Cantharis marginata Fabricius, 1781 and Cantharis bimaculata Fabricius, 1781).
