Adult: pest, volant.
Larva: aquatic, predator.
Extra Ecological Information
Adult female a vicious diurnal biters and attacks humans, domestic animals and rabbits; adults caught in chicken-baited traps; nuisance pest in many areas; isolation of Ross River virus from specimens collected from the south coast of NSW; larva found in brackish and freshwater habitats, salt marshes, estuarine marshes, freshwater pools and creeks, rain or flood-filled pools, roadside ditches and irrigated pastures; larvae are predacious and at times cannibalistic from the 2nd instar onwards.
