Phylum RETARIA Cavalier-Smith, 2002
Introduction
The phylum Retaria contains heterotrophic amoebae with fine pseudopodia, including the foraminiferans (‘forams’) which form thin reticulopodial nets and have external tests, and the radiolarians which form radial axopodia and have intricate mineral skeletons. The taxon is sister to the phylum Cercozoa, both being placed in the group Rhizaria in the supergroup SAR. For taxonomic considerations, see Adl et al. (2012).
