Family PTEROBOTHRIIDAE Pintner, 1931

Introduction

The Pterobothriidae are characterised by four pedicellate bothridia and a tentacular armature comprising five hooks in each principal row (Campbell & Beveridge 1994). A band of hooklets may or may not be present on the external surface of the tentacle The family has a cosmopolitan distribution and was reviewed by Campbell & Beveridge (1996). Palm (2004) included Stragulorhynchus in the Pterobothriidae although it shares few features with the type genus. Palm’s (2004) placement is followed here.
