Introduction

The species of the Perameles bougainville complex (P. fasciata, P. myosuros & P. notina) have been variously treated as species, subspecies or synonyms of Perameles bougainville over the last century (see Jackson & Groves (2015) for references on each species). In a combined molecular/morphological phylogenetic analysis of the Peramelemorphia, Travouillon & Phillips (2018) presented evidence for treating each of these taxa as valid species. Although they did not set out to revise these species Travouillon & Phillips (2018) believed their results showed them to be sufficiently distinct to warrant recognition as species. This arrangement has subsequently been adopted by several public agencies and other workers, and is the classification followed here.
