Introduction
Falla (1940) placed Pseudoprion turtur eatoni Mathews 1912 as a subspecies of Pachyptila crassirostris in error, using the name Pachyptila (Pseudoprion) crassirostris eatoni. The name Pachyptila crassirostris eatoni then became applied to Auckland Island and Heard Island populations of Pachyptila crassirostris (Fulmar Prion). Following re-examination of the holotype Tennyson & Bartle (2005) placed P. t. eatoni as a junior synonym of Pachyptila turtur (Kuhl 1820)(Fairy Prion) making it unavailable as a name for the Auckland Island and Heard Island populations of P. crassirostris, and proposed the new name Pachyptila crassirostris flemingi for the subspecies.
Distribution
Other Regions
Heard & McDonald Islands (Aust. Terr.)
